My love-hate relationship with my laptop is deepening.

Since this post was originally shared, way back in June, 2008 I have converted to a Mac user. This has solved so many of my laptop woes, but I still need to back up. Here's why: I am preparing to part with my laptop. Not for eternity, but for 8-12 business days, which is somehow worse. The horrendous conversation where I learned this news (and effectively made myself sound like a raving nut) went something like this:

Young Women in Business

NJ Thompson and Paulina Lipska of Young Women in Business were one of Loaded Bow's very first interviews.  Here were their take-away lessons.

1.  Put it out there.

Don't guard your ideas.  Sharing them with others will get you feedback and will make you more accountable.  Make a public commitment.

2.  Exceed expectations.

Make them come back for more.

3.  Resist the urge to delay.

A project will take as long as you give it.  Tight deadlines don't allow for downtown and it keeps the energy high.

4.  People, people, people.

Get people who are smarter and get them on board!  You want them on your team and you want them as your cheerleaders.

5.  Don't be afraid to ask for help.

The worst thing they can say is no, but there are people out there prepared to help you more than you can imagine.

6.  Know that no doesn't always mean no.

Always be prepared to ask why not and to propose an alternative that you will get a yes.

7.  Know what you have to offer.

When networking, always ask what you can do for them, before you ask what they can do for you.

8.  The face of business is changing.

You don't have to play by a male play book.  Building relationships is becoming increasingly important and this is where women excel.  Capitalize on this.

How to Pick a Business Name

To launch a project or a product, a girl needs a name!  The name is such an integral part of the beginning of a business that often women put immense pressure on this opening task.  Like new businesses, names come and go and therefore women are right to assess the naming of their endeavor with great attention and care.
